Mary...The Mother of God
If you wonder, at times, about the turmoil in the Roman Catholic and other Christian Churches perhaps I can shed some light on some facts that may help explain current difficulties and will probably cause trouble in the future.
First we need to remind ourselves that The Roman Catholic Church declares itself as the One True Church founded by Jesus Christ. All others are in error, or simply wrong. There is a hidden dicta amongst Roman Catholic theologians that if a person knows of the Roman Catholic Church and rejects it they are doomed to go to hell. This is especially true of those who were baptized as RC’s and know of the Church.
To settle the controversy amongst its followers the RC Church has declared their Pope as Infallible. That means whatever he decides is true.
To add to the above the RC Church issues Dogmas. A Dogma from the RC Church is to be taken as a description of what is true and real.
Please do not think for a moment that what the Dogma is saying is an allegory. It is the actual truth and must be taken as real.
One of those has to do with Communion. In the RC Church the Bread and Wine are, in reality, The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
In other Christian Churches it is symbolic. Or as in The Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States the communicant can decide if it the actual body and blood or represents it or is just simple bread and wine. The Orthodox Churches will also claim it to be the Body and Blood but do not make quite the fuss about it as the RC’s.
In 1950 the Roman Catholic Church declared its last Dogma. It was pretty simple. They said that Mary, the mother of Jesus, and thus the Mother of God, had never died. She had been “Assumed” into Heaven, alive, whole and intact.
Suddenly Churches were named Assumption.

However, we can examine Christian and RC theology to see that the basic structure of Heaven is run by The Father (who is always identified as male and called He), The Son, who is Jesus Christ who is clearly male and the Holy Ghost (or Spirit).
This Trinity has been in place for thousands of years.
Let us examine the identity of these three.
The Father is known as a Burning Bush. Or He is known by His Voice such as, “This is my Son in Whom I am well pleased.”
The Son, of course is Jesus Christ. Jesus had to die on the Cross first. Then He had to be Resurrected which we celebrate on Easter. Finally He had to be Transfigured and the Ascended into Heaven.
The Holy Ghost is a flame, perhaps, such as when the Disciples in The Upper Room had fire come down on their heads and they were instantly changed. Perhaps the Holy Ghost is lightening as it hit Saul, knocked him off his donkey and came awake as Paul a strong Christian.
Contrast the above three with Mary. There is no need to project or imagine as one has to do with the Father.
Jesus had to go through major changes go get to Heaven.
The Holy Ghost, well, is really quite difficult to describe. He is basically a Presence.
But, Mary. Amazing. How does She fit with the Trinity?
Of course She does not. How could She? She is the one who got to heaven by a direct shot.
This then places Her in a position to be a real “Member of the Board.”
It has become The Holy Quartet.

Now, as frail and error ridden humans who would it be best to ask for guidance and help? Jesus is a good answer but most of us have not been Resurrected, or transfigured. That is pretty tough for us to apprehend. It is like having a friend who suddenly becomes the President of the United States. Instead, of Bud, he becomes “Mr. President”,…hard to deal with.
But, we do have Mary. She has experienced many of the things we do. She may actually do. For example since She is there in Her full bodily form she has to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, dress, change clothes, etc. We can wonder what kind of refrigerator she has or how Heaven manages the plumbing.
In this Holy Quartet who would get the support of the majority of investors in the Company (the RC Church)?
We can leave that question for the future and I also wonder why Theologians have not addressed this situation?
After all it is Dogma so, after all, it is Real and must be believed by RC’s unless they wish to sin by not believing.
That Dogma of 1950 has changed the basic structure of the Theology of the Roman Catholic Church. How come there has not been a furor of discussion about this change?
