I have had my Y chromosome identified by The Genographic Project conducted by the National Geographic Society and IBM sponsored by the Waitt Family Foundation.

My Y chromosome indicates that I belong to Haplogroup, R1a1 (M17). This group emerged 10,000 to 15,000 years ago in the Ukraine or southern Russia. They were “Possibly the first people to domesticate the horse.”

All male members of this line such as my sons, father and grandfather, belong to the same group.
